The Department’s Clinical Biochemistry section is equipped with fully automated analyzers, semi-automated analyzers, electrolyte analyzers Arterial Blood gas analyzer, Hormone analyzer etc to evaluate organ profiles for the right diagnosis, monitor patient compliance and outcome of treatment.

The Team:

The Team of professionals at Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences are well qualified, experienced and dedicated. The department is headed by Prof. Dr Devaki R N who has 21 years of experience in diagnostic and teaching services. An active member of Medical Education Unit curriculum committee and member of curriculum committee at CIMS, Anti raging committee, and also taken initiation and coordination to establish and start IGNOU nursing BPCCHN course. Also worked as principal to the continuation of DMLT and MLT courses, at CIMS. The staff are also well trained and constantly thrive to update their knowledge and to establish their benchmark in the field of academics, diagnosis and research.

GOAL

The broad goal is to teach Biochemistry to undergraduate students to make them understand the scientific basis of the life processes at the molecular level and to orient them towards the application of the knowledge acquired in solving clinical problems. The faculty of the Department of Biochemistry have been actively participating in various research activities since the commencement of the institution, they also generate interest among the students and support their research.

Teaching Activities:

The Department conducts regular lecture classes and practical sessions for undergraduate graduate students. We take pride in stating that, apart from traditional teaching methodologies, we also employ efficient and innovative teaching learning aids which helps the students to develop curiosity, critical thinking, tools of enquiry and creative brain storming at the center of competency based medical curriculum.

At Clinical Biochemistry:

The Central Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory Services at Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences has been designed in a futuristic fashion with state of art equipment which includes Clinical Chemistry, Immunoassay, Blood gas analyzer and ISE. The Department is registered for performing External Quality assessment for Clinical Chemistry, Immuno Chemistry with CMC Vellore for Quality maintenance. Special parameters which includes Arterial Blood Gas Analysis, Thyroid Profile, COVID Alarm Markers like serum LDH, Serum ferritin and Procalcitonin, IL-6 along with routine parameters such as Analysis of Blood Glucose, Glucose Tolerence test, Glucose Challenge test, Renal Function tests, Liver Function tests, Cardiac markers, Serum electrolytesare done and these services are provided to the patients of  District Hospital 24x7.

Research:

There is a constant dedication towards Research and projects which is important for updating the Biomedical knowledge and Techniques. Projects and publications have been done by faculty at Department of Biochemistry, on topics involving diseases like HIV, Tuberculosis, Colorectal cancer and Breast cancer.
