Community Medicine

    Community physicians are involved in implementing the disease prevention programs, assessing the community health needs, managing the healthcare teams and doing advocacy for health promoting policies besides diagnosing and treating the diseases. Provision of comprehensive health care to all members of the community is one of the major responsibilities of Community Medicine.

 Goals

The aim of teaching by the Department of Community Medicine is directed towards preparation  of the medical student to function as community and primary care physician.

Towards this end, by completion of training the MBBS student must be

  1. Aware of the physical, social, psychological, economic and environmental aspect of health and disease.
  2. Able to apply the clinical skills to recognize and manage common health Problems including their physical, emotional and social aspects at the individual, Family and community levels and deal with public health emergencies.
  3. Able to define and manage the health problems of the community he/she serves.

  • Community based activities are carried out at Rural field practice area of Medical college through the  Adoption of Rural Health Training  Centres at Harave PHC , Alluru PHC and Udigala PHC in rural areas and UHTC Chamarajanagara  in urban Areas
  • Department of Community Medicine and Vivekananda Girijana Kalyan Kendra, B R Hills have a MOU for utilization of the Services for Research, Posting of Interns and other Academic Activities.
