Department of Pharmacology

About the Department:

Following the establishment of Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Chamarajanagar in 2016, the Department of Pharmacology started functioning in 2017 and since then it has been catering to the needs of medical undergraduates (UGs). It is located in the third floor of the college building. The department is involved in teaching Pharmacology theory supplemented with practical, tutorials, seminars, group discussions and integrated teachings in collaboration with the clinical departments. The department has well qualified, experienced faculties who are involved in academics, research and providing support to the hospital. Apart from MBBS, the department is also involved in teaching Pharmacology to the UGs of BSc Nursing, Paramedical & Allied health sciences courses.

Objectives of the department are to impart knowledge, skills and modern teaching programme for UGs in Pharmacology, to educate the UGs in patients care facilities like rational drug therapy, handling emergencies and pharmacovigilance and finally to motivate them to involve in research activities.

 Services:

  • Facilities available:
    • Lecture gallery (250 – 300 capacity) with AV aid.
    • Demonstration rooms (50 – 70 capacity) with AV aid.
    • Department library cum seminar room with latest editions of Pharmacology text books and journals.
    • Modern Pharmacology museum.
    • Research laboratory.
    • Practical laboratory with computerized simulation software for animal experiments.

 

  • Department activities:
    • Apart from the regular teaching activities, the department has conducted a workshop on “Good clinical practice for ethical committee members”.
    • Pharmacovigilance unit set up in the hospital which is regularly monitoring and reporting adverse drug events.
    • Hospital pharmacy day to day activities is regularly monitored with procurement and maintaining of stocks.
    • Institutional ethics committee (IEC) is involved in various IEC related activities.
    • The faculties are actively involved in research activities and till date around 40 research papers are published in various indexed journals.
